In this volume we reflect on the spaces we have been utilising over the past few months. The interiors we inhabit have the capacity to provide both escapism and practicality, so therefore it’s important to find balance within the domestic setting. Being cognisant of how we fill our space and curate our homes, we are pleased to introduce the printshop - a considered collection of original artwork.

When I think of interior design, Le Corbusier is certainly front-of-mind. As an architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer, Le Corbusier’s holistic approach to improving all aspects of lifestyle through design certainly aligns with the vaabs ethos.

Le Corbusier, who’s real name was Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, is probably most famous for pioneering modern architecture. The interiors of his spaces always carried a distinct commonality - open-plan, or ‘free-form’ as he referred to it. Learning about Le Corbusier growing up, I always believed that he invented open-plan, for the home at least. His innovative use of columns, in a time where load-bearing walls were preferred, meant he could encourage vast open areas in his work. He did this with unparalleled success, curating endless open, minimal interiors, where his obsession for large horizontal windows flooded the rooms with natural light and his distinct interior spirit dressed the space with a concise elegance.

Le Corbusier famously said that the house was a machine for living. A sentiment that holds more relevance than ever as we find our homes facilitating work, rest and play (plus everything else in between). Our homes are working harder than ever and the vaabs printshop provides an opportunity to reimagine the spaces we are becoming so familiar with, making sure the machine facilitates day through to night with the greatest function.
